Sugar Sweetened Beverages are Not the Root of All Evil

Saying it again louder for the people in the back.
Sugar sweetened beverages including soda, juice, iced tea, sports drinks, and energy drinks are not the root cause of the so-called “obesity epidemic” or increasing rates of diabetes. Just like donuts and ice cream didn’t cause these “epidemics”, neither did simply drinking sugar sweetened beverages. There are so many factors involved and it’s completely oversimplifying a complicated matter and ignoring genetics, socioeconomic barriers, and environmental factors.
And it shames people who like these beverages. Which is most people, because they’re designed to be delicious.
I’m not saying it’s a health food, but SUGAR SWEETENED BEVERAGES CAN BE A PART OF A BALANCED DIET (used in the sense of overall pattern of eating), so cheers!
